NH Legislative Update: HB546
A bill creating art therapy licensure in the state of New Hampshire, HB 546, was submitted to the House of Representatives by Peter Schmidt. You can follow the progress and status of the bill through this website: https://legiscan.com/NH/text/HB546/id/1850272
Democratic Representative Peter Schmidt was excited about the opportunity to establish art therapy licensure in NH when Senator Watters submitted SB 535 last year, and was disappointed that when Governor Sununu signed the bill, only language granting Title Protection remained. He took it upon himself to write a bill and sought input from Susan Riedl, NEATA’s Legislative Chair, after he had already delivered the bill to the drafting room. With great enthusiasm and a willingness to jump in, Susan was able to work with members of the NEATA Legislative Committee (Katie Racanelli and Serena Duckrow Fonda) as well as the AATA to add and revise language to ensure the bill fully encompasses the needs of consumers and practitioners. The drafted bill was submitted on January 3rd and will be reviewed by the Executive Departments and Administrative committee in the coming weeks.
The NEATA will continue to publish updates on our website and on our social media platforms to keep everyone informed.
